Past:
In the dub, her name is just Mina but in the Japanese, she's Aino Minako.(Child of beauty and love) Only truly hard core Sailor Venus fans (such as me ^^) know of Minako's past since DiC (the stupidist group of people you will ever here of) cut episode 42 of the Japanese version which told all about Minako's past. What I mean by cut is they didn't even bother to translate it! So in the dub, there's no explanation about where she came from or what kind of life she has.
Minako once lived in London and although many say that Sailor Moon was the first Senshi to appear, others say it was really Sailor Venus because in London, Minako fought the Dark Kingdom as Sailor V. Also, since there is Sailor V manga, the whole Sailor V story doesn't always fit in with Sailor Moon.
Anyway, in London, Minako met Katrina who taught her English and she also met Alan with whom she fell in love with. The three would always go places together and have a lot of fun. Katrina was a cop and she worked with Sailor V all the time.
One day, Katrina and Sailor V were trying to catch a bad guy in a huge abandoned warehouse. Sailor V went in and the man hiding threw a grenade at her. The building exploded and Katrina ran away. Somehow, Sailor V had escaped and hid in the alley and she saw Katrina being held by Alan and crying. Minako was heartbroken and left London to return home to Japan figuring it was best that her friend and lost loved thought she was dead.
When Sailor Venus first showed up in Japan, the rest of the girls thought she might be the moon princess because of the crescent moon she bore on her forehead. She has her own guardian, Artemis, a white cat, because she was the leader of the Sailor Scouts in the silver millenium, when there was no Sailor Moon, only the Moon Princess.
