NightWalker
Review by Kazuya
NightWalker was a really well-put-together anime and is much overlooked in my opinion. The music is pretty good, especially the opening theme, Gessekai. It's not your typical annoying high-pitched J-Pop anime theme song. It actually sounds dark and brooding. The drawing is also done incredibly well, although I do have a bone to pick with this series on that topic. The first couple of episodes are all drawn the same, but then suddenly 1/4 way through the series, the drawing changes and so do some of the colors. Shido, the main character has a sword that is solid red (blood) in the first couple of episodes and then suddenly it is pink and laser-looking in the rest of the episodes. His hair color also changes from gray to blue, or the other way around...I can't remember. The first couple episodes were drawn better than the latter, I'd have to say.
The story is about a vampire named Shido and his partner Riho and umm...other lady (lol). Shido runs a detective agency while Riho is his assistant. They hunt Nightbreeds, which are like demons. In each episode, they go after a different Nightbreed. Throughout the series, Shido's former lover, Kain comes back to haunt him. Kain is who first turned Shido into a vampire and he is evil. Shido has turned to the darkside and now hates Kain for turning him into a vampire, but is sometimes tempted to return to Translyvannia with him. That's basically the plot without giving too much away. The series spans 12 episodes and you can get it on 2 DvDs in a collection for pretty cheap. I got it for about $12 I think. The series is a little open ended, leaving space for a sequel series. Anyway, go out and get it. It's great. I'd give it a 9/10.
Oh, oh AND the series says it's 13 UP, but it should probably be higher considering all the naked boob vampire biting. ;-)
