Part three of five: Basic text commands
There are a variety of many different things that can be done to text alone by way of HTML. You can make text colored, different sizes, bold, italic, underlined, and in any standard font you like. First we will touch upon one of the easiest commands ever, the command for making bold, italic, underlined or strike-out text. For example, if you wanted to say “Welcome to my site!” in either of the four aforementioned styles, this what you would do for…
Bold:
Italic:
Underlined:
Maybe you've seen text scrolling across pages before. Those are called Marquees. They're very simple to create and are used for getting attention. However professional websites do not use them for they tend to be annoying. Example:
This one, for example, is infinite and will not stop.
Suppose you would rather have the text bigger or smaller. It comes in sizes 1-7, with size 3 being the default font size. So if you wanted the same text in size 6 for example, you would put this into the input box:
It is also possible to get your text out of that boring black. You can do this, but just make sure that you make the text a color that will show up against your background! Let’s say you want the text to be in purple. This is the command you would put in:
Also, it is possible to put in hexidecimal codes for color names, but don’t sweat it if you don’t know what hexidecimal codes are, names work well too!
But say you want it to change the font (after all, who wants Times?). This can be done very easily, but you MUST include the quotation marks! It will not turn out otherwise. If you wanted the same text in, say, Comic Sans MS, it would look like this:
